Denuclearizing North Korea has failed. But we shouldn’t give up on arms control.


As of mid-2022, it’s become clear that four decades of efforts to prevent North Korea developing weapons of mass destruction (WMD) have manifestly and utterly failed.

This year has seen the DPRK fire more, bigger and better missiles faster than ever before, in volley after volley. Kim Jong Un has ended his four-year moratorium on intercontinental ballistic missiles launches. A fresh nuclear test, the first since 2017, is widely expected soon.
