Manchester United will be looking to end their three-game winless run and secure a positive result in their final home game of the season when they welcome Brentford to Old Trafford on Monday evening.
United, who beat Brentford 3-1 in west London back in January, will be looking to arrest their current winless run and get back on track, ahead of concluding their campaign with back-to-back away games. The Reds, despite being second-best, did manage to halt their two-game losing run on Thursday evening, drawing 1-1 with Chelsea.
Cristiano Ronaldo cancelled out Marcos Alonso’s opener to ensure Ralf Rangnick’s side earned a point in their penultimate Old Trafford outing of the campaign. However, it did not disguise the fact that they were poor once again.
However, facing just one side currently camped inside the top-ten in their three remaining fixtures should give United confidence of ending the season strongly. Brentford, however, are no pushovers, recently beating Chelsea and taking a point off Tottenham Hotspur.
But how do the pundits think United will get on against Thomas Frank’s side?
Mark Lawrenson – BBC Sport
Manchester United are so passive at the moment that it’s hard to see them beating anyone, but maybe the Old Trafford crowd will galvanise them this time,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport. “Something has to.
“Brentford have been on an amazing run and they will pose a threat if they can get Christian Eriksen on the ball, but I’m still going for a United win even though I have been wrong before when I’ve forecast an improved performance from them.”
Prediction: United 2-0 Brentford.
Paul Merson – Sportskeeda
“Manchester United have more immediate concerns, however, and this’ll be a hard game for them,” Merson told Sportskeeda. “The way Brentford have been playing, they could pull this off.
“Who would’ve thought this was possible one, two, or ten years ago? Brentford are going to go out there expecting to win this game. They’ll have a go at Manchester United and I think they’ll cause them a few problems this weekend.”
Prediction: United 2-2 Brentford.
Michael Owen – BetVictor
“Now United have little to play for, I’m curious whether Ralk Rangnick will change the personnel,” Owen told BetVictor. “There are a lot of promising youngsters at the club, now would be an ideal opportunity for them to get some game time ahead of the new boss coming in this summer.
“Brentford have had such a great season and can travel to Old Trafford full of confidence after that draw against Spurs. They’ve been very organised in recent weeks, and make it difficult for each side they face.
I’m still going to pick United. Brentford will be difficult to break down.”
Prediction: United 1-0 Brentford.
