Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has been criticised by Paul Scholes for his antics during the win over Manchester United, as the Gunners’ summer transfer plans have been revealed
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has been slammed by Manchester United legend Paul Scholes over his touchline antics.
The criticism came following Arsenal’s 3-1 win over United on Saturday thanks to goals from Nuno Tavares, Bukayo Saka and Granit Xhaka, with Cristiano Ronaldo grabbing his 100th Premier League goal for the visitors. But Scholes was left unimpressed with Arteta’s actions in the build-up to the penalty being awarded which was subsequently put away by Saka.
It comes as the Gunners’ summer transfer plans have been revealed – with the club set to target two marquee signings And Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has responded to reports that one of those players could be Gabriel Jesus.
Here are Mirror Football’s latest Arsenal headlines.
Guardiola reacts to Jesus rumours
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has said he “doesn’t know and doesn’t care” whether striker Gabriel Jesus stays at the club beyond this summer amid reports Arsenal are keen to sign him.
The Brazilian forward could be set to depart the Etihad this summer, with his contract at the club up at the end of next season and City inching ever closer to signing Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland. But Jesus reminded his City boss of his strengths over the weekend as he bagged an impressive four goals in the 5-1 demolition of Watford.
That led to Guardiola being questioned about his striker’s future following the match, and while he insisted he is “our player” the City boss admitted he doesn’t “know what is going to happen”.
Gunners’ transfer plans revealed
Arsenal technical director Edu says the club will target ‘two marquee signings’ during the summer transfer window.
The move would represent something of a switch in approach from the Gunners after they outspent all of the Premier League rivals to sign Nuno Tavares, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Ben White, Aaron Ramsdale, Martin Odegaard and Takehiro Tomiyasu for a combined £149million.
Manager Mikel Arteta is thought to be keen to bring in two new forwards in the summer, with Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah set to leave when their contracts expire at the end of the season and with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang having also departed the Emirates in the January transfer window. And Edu has now spoken about the club’s summer transfer plans as he revealed just how different the club’s approach may be this summer.
Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has branded Mikel Arteta “a disgrace” following the Gunners’ 3-1 win over his old side.
The former England international was left fuming with Arteta’s touchline antics in the build-up to Arsenal being awarded a penalty, which was dispatched by Bukayo Saka. But Before it was given Arteta was seen approaching referee Craig Pawson to argue about Eddie Nketiah’s finish being ruled out for offside.
And Scholes was highly critical of the Gunners manager, insisting “he shouldn’t be allowed to do that”.
