Yoon’s defense minister nominee will not scrap Kim and Moon’s 2018 military deal

South Korean President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol’s nominee for defense minister told lawmakers that he does not intend to scrap the inter-Korean military agreement signed in 2018, but described North Korea as his country’s “enemy.”

Lee Jong-sup shared his position in a written statement to the National Assembly on Wednesday ahead of his nomination hearing. Yoon, who previously accused North Korea of violating the 2018 military deal, announced Lee as his defense minister pick earlier this month.
