Harry Kane is set to snub Manchester United and stay at Tottenham this summer.

United have been courting Kane for months and incoming boss Erik Ten Hag has made the England captain his top striker target. They might have been able to tempt Kane had they gone for ex-Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino as the pair remain very close from their days working together at White Hart Lane.

In fact, even if United had missed out on the Champions League, bringing in Pochettino might have given them a genuine chance of luring Kane to Old Trafford. But Kane, who turns 29 in July, is ready to snub United’s concrete interest and now looks likely to stay at White Hart Lane and reassess his future after the summer.

That will be a massive early blow to Ajax manager Ten Hag who is set to be announced as United’s next manager and will be given major cash to help overhaul the squad. Ten Hag must be seen as a gamble by United as, even though Pochettino has had mixed fortunes at Paris Saint Germain, his pulling power and reputation at Spurs remains strong.

Mirror Sport revealed last month that Kane was United’s top summer target but their form has dipped in the past few weeks and finishing in the top four now looks a long shot. Instead, Tottenham now look red-hot favourites to get into the Champions League, Kane is enjoying a new lease of life under Antonio Conte and the Spurs top scorer is happy again.

Kane wants to stay and beat Tottenham’s goalscoring record, remain a club legend and Conte is now giving the club a genuine chance of being competitive. Manchester City were desperate to sign Kane last summer and it became an ugly transfer saga with the Tottenham striker eventually being made to stay at White Hart Lane.

But Kane is now back in top form and City have moved on with Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland their No1 transfer target this summer. That leaves the way clear for Kane to stay at Tottenham and, even though he will have just two years left on his deal this summer, it now seems highly unlikely he will be leaving.
