City talking points
Liverpool twice came from behind to claim a battling draw in Sunday’s thrilling 2-2 draw at the Etihad.
Kevin De Bruyne swerved away from a challenge outside the area and struck a fierce shot that deflected off Joel Matip and crashed in off the post. But less than 10 minues later Diogo Jota swept home after Trent Alexander-Arnold deftly cut back a deep cross from Andy Robertson.
Gabriel Jesus restored City’s lead in the 36th minute, guiding a shot past Alisson and in off the bar. Just 47 seconds of the second half had elapsed when Mohamed Salah played in Sadio Mane to equalise. It was a game full of talking points, including the rapid start, notable omissions and Liverpool’s relentlessness.
Henderson and De Bruyne say same thing
Liverpool and Manchester City’s captains both said the same thing after the two sides played out a thrilling draw in their Premier League tie on Sunday.
The match had been billed as a potential title decider prior to kick-off and the result means City retain a slender one-point advantage in the table. Both Jordan Henderson and Kevin De Bruyne both spoke at length after the match, giving their views on how the title race looks now.
And they showed both clubs appear to be taking the same approach to the rest of the run-in to the end of the season.
Guardiola’s Liverpool message
Pep Guardiola has praised Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp following their two sides drawing on Sunday, with the Spaniard saying his counterpart “makes him a better manager”.
The two managers shared a warm embrace on the full-time whistle as they showed their respect for one another at the final result. And Guardiola also heaped praise on Klopp when he appeared in his post-match press conference afterward.
But while the City manager had many kind words for Klopp, he revealed they “don’t have dinner together” and that his side will be trying to win when they meet again in the FA Cup semi-final next Saturday.
