North Korea votes against UN resolution condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine

North Korea voted against a U.N. resolution Wednesday demanding that Russia end its invasion of Ukraine, a move experts said reflects Pyongyang’s hostility toward Western countries and hope that Russia will support DPRK sanctions relief.

The DPRK was one of only five countries to oppose the motion, which passed overwhelmingly at the first emergency special session of the U.N. General Assembly in 40 years. The resolution condemns Russia’s invasion and calls for the country’s military to immediately withdraw from Ukraine, the latest international effort to isolate Moscow following sanctions and other measures that have devastated the Russian economy.
