Leeds confident Jesse Marsch connections will seal first transfer of new era

Jesse Marsch named as Leeds’ new boss

Leeds are confident the appointment of Jesse Marsch will help them sign United States international Brenden Aaronson this summer in a £20m deal.

Leeds tried to sign the RB Salzburg in the last transfer window when Marcelo Bielsa was still in charge.

But the Austrian club refused to sell him because they were still in the Champions League at the time.

But the Yorkshire club remain interested in the 21-year-old, despite sacking Bielsa this week and replacing him with Marsch.

And they reckon Marsch’s strong links with RB Salzburg will help them finally lure the forward to Elland Road, as originally reported by the Daily Star.

Marsch has told Leeds chairman Andrea Radrizzani he is also a big admirer of Aaronsen’s and urged them to push ahead with plans to lure him to Elland Road.

Fellow American Marsch knows Aaronson well from his time as RB Salzburg manager and handed him his debut for them in 2021.

Aaronson has made it clear he is keen on testing himself in the Premier League and favours a move to Leeds, provided the club avoids relegation this season.

If Leeds manage to sign Aaronson, the expected deal would make him the second-most expensive American in English football after Christian Pulisic, who joined Chelsea from Borussia Dortmund for £55m in 2019.

Aaronson joined RB Salzburg from Philadelphia Union for an undisclosed fee in 2021 and has won 18 international caps.

Marsch will take charge of his first Leeds game at Leicester on Saturday under immediate pressure to get results, following the side’s run of six games without a win that cost Bielsa his job and left the club two points above the drop zone.
