Manchester United icon Roy Keane has continued his war of words with Jamie Carragher over Manchester United’s decision to bring Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford.
The pair were embroiled in fierce battles during their playing days at United and Liverpool, and this season got into a heated debate off the pitch after Ronaldo dropped to the bench when the Reds travelled to Chelsea during Michael Carrick’s short tenure as United boss.
Both Sky Sports pundits argued the decision behind bringing the then-36-year-old back to the Theatre of Dreams as United’s tepid performances led to the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with the Portugal captain coming under fire from many.
Speaking on Gary Neville’s The Overlap YouTube channel at their live show, the former United skipper was quick to fire in the direction of the Liverpool defender.
He said: “Obviously Jamie [Carragher] was wrong, he was talking about winning cups. It is about winning cups for United at the moment.”
Carragher interjected: “He told [me] Man United has signed Ronaldo to win the FA Cup, well that’s gone f****** well didn’t it.”
Before Keane bit back: “To win cups. He obviously didn’t do it of course, they might win the Champions League, you never know. We’ve seen a lot worse teams than Man United win the Champions League.
“I didn’t say that [he was brought in to win the FA Cup]. I’ve seen you win cups and I’ve never seen a happier man.”
