Brazilian club set to give up on Fernandinho pursuit and more Man City transfer rumours

Fernandinho looks set to stay at Manchester City in January, with reports suggesting Atletico Mineiro are set to give up hopes of landing the midfielder.

The City captain has been linked with a return to Brazil in the New Year, with his contract at the Etihad set to expire in the summer.

Fernandinho will be free to agree a move in January, with some suggestions that the 36-year-old could have been on his way as early as the New Year.

According to reports in Brazil (via Sport Witness), officials from Mineiro recently made a trip to Manchester in order to discuss the possibility of Fernandinho returning to his homeland during the January window.

However, they were told that the midfielder would be staying at City until the end of the season, ending any hopes they had of securing him at the earliest opportunity.

Mineiro are said to now be turning their attentions towards another option in defensive midfield, which could leave a question mark over whether they will revisit their interest in Fernandinho in the summer.

Elsewhere, Barcelona are said to have put three of their players up for sale as they look to raise the funds needed to buy Ferran Torres in January.

Torres has been heavily linked with a move to the Camp Nou in the New Year, although the Catalan giants could run into problems over their financial situation.

The club will likely have to offload players in order to build up some cash so that Xavi can get to work on building his squad, and according to the Mirror (via the Express), they have put three big names in the shop window.

Philippe Coutinho, Sergino Dest and Ousmane Dembele have all reportedly been made available for transfer, with Barca actively touting them across Europe as they try to get a head-start on the January window.

City are said to want £42m for Torres, with Barcelona reportedly £5m short in their valuation.
