Manchester United fans are asking the same question after Kieran McKenna update

Manchester United coach Kieran McKenna is on the verge of becoming Ipswich Town’s new manager.

McKenna is set to leave Old Trafford to replace Paul Cook, who was jettisoned from the Portman Road hotseat after a goalless draw with League Two minnows Barrow AFC in the FA Cup earlier this month.

Brought into the first-team fold by former United boss Jose Mourinho, McKenna started his Carrington career in charge of the club’s Under-18s in 2016 before his promotion.

Solskjaer kept McKenna and Michael Carrick on when the Norwegian returned to Manchester three years ago, replacing Mourinho following his sacking.

When Solskjaer was sacked himself last month his replacement Ralf Rangnick kept McKenna and Phelan on but Carrick walked after the Arsenal win at the start of the month.

Rangnick moved to bring in Chris Armas and Sascha Lense to his coaching staff last week.

Phelan, it was confirmed, is still on the books at United with Armas replacing Carrick rather than the former Hull City boss.

“Mike is not watching the training sessions – he also didn’t do that when Ole was in charge – but he’s also part of the training group of the staff,” Rangnick said.

“But he is never on the pitch when we train. He’s not out there and he didn’t do that when Ole was in charge.

“Chris will not replace Mike, but much rather Michael Carrick.”

McKenna’s impending departure means that Phelan is one of the last remaining coaches from before Solskjaer was sacked.

And United fans have been pondering what the future holds for Phelan now that McKenna is set to leave the club.

Here’s the pick of the reaction from social media…
